Miss Clumsy

Every girl I meet lately is very poised. I mean the way they walk and talk is just so perfect. Whether they are walking in heels or flats, talking in English or Spanish. Everything they do is just perfect. I know the quote that says, "You are your worst critic." But seriously, how can one person be so clumsy? I thought I might make your day a little brighter with some stories about my passed experiences, trying to be poised.
It was a sunrise service, Easter morning, 7:00am. There was a light drizzle falling onto Brian and I as we are walking into church when all of a sudden, I got stuck! I couldn't move, my shoe had gotten stuck in a crack! Laughing, I pulled on that shoe to get it to come out of the crack, it took some real muscles to get that baby out. Brian only laughed at me, but he did wait until I got it out. What a nice brother.

Another Sunday, close to Christmas. The ground was covered with snow and Brian and I were walking into Meijer. Again, I was wearing heels but these were only 1 inch. So, we see the greeter and she welcomes us into Meijer. Within five seconds of saying, "Hi!" I slipped into a Tebow pose. Then I was stuck for about ten seconds, mostly because I was laughing hysterically. Brian of course was laughing at/with me. The Meijer greeter runs over to me and looks very concerned. She makes sure I am alright and Brian proceeds to help me up. (AWW!)
(What a good brother! {most of the time})
Choral ladies retreat, 2006. We were getting ready to go to Mrs. Spangler's church when I forgot my Bible downstairs. I quickly ran down the stairs and grabbed it. I was trying to be as fast as possible. I was running up the stair when BAM! I fell going up the stairs. Not only did I fall, but I ripped off a scab from a previous fall that week. Now there is blood everywhere and even on my skirt. Now, that takes talent!

Kalamazoo, a West Michigan Air Dogs Event (A dog jumping competition). I was helping my friend Liz secretary an event. It is important to mention that it was close to exams time. I had all of my Microbiology stuff in my backpack and I put on the back my chair so it wouldn't get wet from the dew on the ground. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that my bag was to heavy for the chair, until I stood up to hand someone papers and went to sit back down I realized there was no seat there anymore. Needless to say, I made a graceful landing on the wet ground. Same event, next accident. It been raining all day and the dock was soaking wet. I went on the dock to hold someone's dog for him. After the dog did his thing, I walked down the ramp and I almost fell straight into the mud. If it was not for my friend Pat, I would have been covered in mud.
(Sky showing the people how it is done)
One month ago, I was sitting in my Epidemiology/Statistics class, we were doing a class activity when my paper flew off the desk. All of the chairs in this room are on wheels. I thought I would "wheel" over to the paper and pick it up, when my coat got stuck under one of the wheels and my chair flipped over. Of course, I was in the front row and the teacher announced it to the entire class. That was thoroughly embarrassing.

There is never a dull moment around me.

Respiratory Care

What is respiratory care? What to these people do? What kind of degree is it? Are you still pursuing nursing? Well, I am glad that you asked so many questions. I am going to give you a brief run down of what a Respiratory Therapist (RRT <-- Registered Respiratory Therapist) does.

1. What is respiratory care? It is a specialized healthcare practitioner who has graduated from a college or a university and passed a national board certifying examination. Respiratory therapists work under the general supervision of an intensive care physician or pulmonologist.
(Source from: Wikipedia)

2. What do these therapists do? We do a lot and work in many different areas. According to my professors we are one the first people to assess a patient. Looking for breathing problems, and we help to calm the patient down. We help the doctors with insertions of tubes and monitor breathing treatments. We can work on many different floors also. One day we might work on the pediatric floor the next day we might work on the geriatrics floor. It seems to me that everyday will be different, and will be quite interesting.

3. What kind of degree is it? I am going for the associates degree. I will be in this program until Fall 2014! Which means I would graduate this program in December of 2014! That is next year! That seems really close to me. (There is a light at the end of the tunnel!) I am only going for the associates because I want to jump into the nursing program as soon as possible.

4. Am I still pursuing nursing? OF COURSE! I have always wanted to be a nurse. I hope and pray that I will have two degrees by the time I am done here at Ferris.

An Explaination of Why Hugs are Important

I was talking to a friend the other day, about what you could not live without in life. We thought about music, movies, friends, restaurants, money, and presents. One thing I don't think I could live without is hugs. My insightful mother once told me, that a person needs to be touched at least 10 times a day, in order to stay healthy. (This was a long time ago. Maybe she was pulling my leg, but I still believe it today.) She explained that this kind of touch can be accidentally running into someone, a hug, a handshake, a high-five, a fist bump or anything that involves some kind of physical touch.

Generally, I am not a touchy, feely person, but when I get a hug from anyone, I get all warm and fuzzy inside. A feeling of I am loved. Now, don't think that I hug just anyone! I make sure these individuals are well qualified for a special Lisa hug. So next time you see me, don't be nervous to give me a hug. Now that you know what my favorite thing is, what is yours?

Meet the Gang!

In my last post, (you can access that here,) I mentioned that I have met some new friends at Ferris. I have two groups of friends, the bus riders and people that I have met in classes. I thought it was about time for you to meet them. First, starting with my bus friends or as some of us call it our bus family. This would be because we spend about 3 1/2 hours a day together riding the bus. I would consider us the kind of family that knows everything about everyone. That side of the family where there is no privacy. You know what I am talking about.

Meet Michael. I met him the very first day I rode the bus. He has attended Calvin College for one year, yet wanted to study Pharmacy, so he transferred to Ferris. He is a friendly fellow that needs to learn more about life, learn how to listen to advice, and how to let others talk. Nonetheless, he is a good listener, a good student and in general just a nice guy.
(Sorry the picture is blurry, we were on the bus.)

Meet Isandro. I call him Izzy or Gomez. We have had lots of conversations in the past about religion, girls, boys, goals, dogs, Youtube videos, pretty much anything under the sun. We study after school, and sometimes during our breaks. We have a lot in common so that makes him really easy to talk to. He is a nice guy, easy to talk to, gives good advice, and someone who makes me laugh a lot!

Meet the twins. Mikaela and Shelby, (Shelby is on the right and Mikaela is on the left) these lovely ladies are from Cedar Springs. They enlighten the bus riders with what happens in their everyday lives. They tell us about their boyfriends, plans and work. They make the long bus ride seem short (at least until Cedar Springs). They are attached at the hip, but I don't think we would have it any other way.

Meet Brian. A father of 2, a husband and going for an automotive degree. Brian was my very first friend on the bus. He has served over seas for America's safety. (Thank You!) His occupation is a big vehicle tow trucker. He has taught me about how to put a flipped semi back upright, how to pull someone out of a ditch and he tells me facts about cars that I didn't know. (Surprise, Surprise)
That is it for the bus family.

The next two important people I have met at Ferris.
Meet Megan. I met Megan during my first semester. We just happened to be in FOUR classes together. Coincidence? I think not! Megan and I would study for hours together, quizzing each other on diagrams, notes and more DIAGRAMS! This incredible woman has taught me how to study and get good grades in really hard classes. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to see each other the whole semester as she has two jobs and goes to school full-time.

Last, but certainly not least, my newest friend Brenden. Brenden and I met in computers. (The only class this semester I don't need.) Brenden and I have a special friendship. We do homework together until the bus comes. That is about an hour and forty-five minutes of pure homework! He has taught me so much about relationships, importance of friends in college and most of all how to have fun! He is a fun, outgoing, caring and straight forward kinda guy. Definitely, could not have survived computer class without him. Thanks Brenden!

I hope you enjoyed meeting my newest friends. I hope their will be more! Oh, life at Ferris.

Getting Started

Going to a new school can be tough sometimes. Meeting new people, finding the best study areas in school, and in general finding where you are even supposed to go. I am a pretty social person and I make sure to set aside time for social events. For instance, going to the mall and trying on random sunglasses just to make the trip worth it.
I knew that when I started going to this new school I would meet new people, make wonderful friends and hopefully these friendships would last a lifetime. My first and foremost reason for attending college is to get a Nursing Degree (BSN) and a Respiratory Care (RT) associates degree.
This is my prime reason for even attending school. After you have been studying all day about the human body and what part of the body creates what hormone you are going to need a break. This is where new friends play a role. I have found some wonderful friends at Ferris all ready. We keep in contact while I am here and they are up there. I can't wait to live up there someday and study what God has given me a desire for. Oh, life at Ferris!
